Model Projects for Overseas Development of Broadcast Content Over Terrestrial Television

Undertaking the "FY2014 Model Projects for Overseas Development of Broadcast Content over Terrestrial Television", commissioned by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, Mitsubishi Research Institute, Inc. (President: Kyota Omori) and Broadcast Program Export Association of Japan (Chairman Motoyuki Oka (Advisor to SUMITOMO CORPORATION) and Management Board Chairman Hajime Shigemura (Director of Overseas Content Development Division, Japan Commercial Broadcasters Association) have been jointly proceeding with model projects based on adopted ten projects targeted at six countries--Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, and Myanmar.

1. Outline of Projects

These projects aim to increase "Japan fans" by continuously distributing Japanese content in the six Southeast Asian countries, which have great potential markets for Japanese broadcast content, as well as to encourage Japanese private businesses to further promote content in overseas markets, by creating new models that induce extensive ripple effects. These projects will seek to secure airtime in local terrestrial televisions in each country, to provide or to co-produce broadcast content corresponding with local viewers' needs, and to broadcast these programs on a regular basis. The results obtained through each projects will be analyzed to verify its effects and outcomes.

A continuing Japanese airtime will be included in the popular information program "Kris TV," Philippines' largest terrestrial broadcasting station ABS-CBN, which is hosted by Kris Aquino, sister of President Benigno Aquino. Also a CATV drama and entertainment channel (Jeepney TV) will offer popular Japanese dramas and variety programs.
Malaysia TV TOKYO Holdings Corporation Media Prima (NTV7) Every Friday 22: 00 to 22: 30 Three popular Asian celebrities try to solve mysteries under a given "Mission", during their community life in Japan. This game-like information program "WASABI" will be co-produced, to explore various aspects of Japan's unique culture and its spirit of hospitality ("Omotenashi").

Media Prima (8TV) Every Thursday 21: 30 to 22: 00 "Traveler, Henry" the host of the popular railway-travel local program "Welcome To The Railworld", visits Japan to feature 100 sites in ten districts from Hokkaido to Okinawa. This Japanese version of "Welcome To The Railworld" is co-produced to convey the appeal by introducing attractive tourist spots, fancy Japanese foods, Bullet trains, high-quality products and other features.

ANTV Every Sunday 10: 00 to 10: 30 In the travel and information program "YOKOSO JKT48", members of the popular Indonesian girls group JKT48, the first foreign sister of Japan's AKB48, visit various sites of Japan to convey the appeal of the country. The program will be co-produced with Indonesian terrestrial broadcasting station ANTV, collaborating with Japanese Local broadcast stations.
Thailand ITOCHU Corporation BBTV(Channel 7) Every Saturday 11: 45 to 12: 00 A program will be co-produced exclusively featuring "Japanese Pop Beauty." This game-like variety program seek to convey the appeal of Japan and "Made in Japan" to young Thai generations by taking advantage of "Cool Japan" beauty methods, cosmetics, and fashion items that Japan boasts of to the world.
Japan Association of Music Enterprises Workpoint Creative TV(Workpoint TV) Every Sunday 8: 30 to 9: 00 A program will be co-produced to effectively promote "Cool Japan" and "Visit Japan" initiatives through Anime-Songs.

MCOT(Channel 9) Every Saturday 21: 45 to 22: 15 In an omnibus program, members of a Japanese idol group Yumemiru Adolescence guide two popular Thai personalities Jack and Miki to unknown places in Japan to convey the appeal of the country to Thai viewers as well as travelled people.

Japanese dramas will be regularly aired under the title "Japan Drama Hour", on Vietnamese major channel VTV1 and VTV6, as killer content selected by local producers.

MNTV Every Tuesday and Thursday 19: 20 to 19: 50 Japanese programs are edited for prime-time. Programs include: "Moshi- Moshi, Nippon" introduces Japan's "Cool" products from traditional items to advanced products, hosted by a Japanese personality Kyary Pamyu Pamyu. "Bara-su" introduces Japanese technologies by disassembling industrial products. "Shoku Kiko", introduces local Japanese foods.

MRTV-4 Every Saturday and Sunday 17: 00 to 18: 00 Every Monday to Friday 22: 30 to 23: 00 Japanese dramas and travel programs will be aired regularly over a popular comprehensive channel providing dramas and information programs targeted at all families and generations.
