MRI Group works to help protect the environment through business activities conducive to reducing the environmental burdens caused by our customers and society. Through the research and consulting projects undertaken by MRI, we help formulate and implement public policy, develop management strategies, and assist with the implementation of strategies designed to reduce environmental burdens. The Mitsubishi Research Institute DCS also helps customers reduce their environmental footprint with total IT solutions.

The MRI Group actively engages in community actions that contribute to the environment. Leveraging the results from our projects in the environmental and energy fields, we work to raise public awareness of related issues and their solutions through broad-based communications. For instance, MRI researchers present accessible commentary on sustainability and related issues through our MRI Monthly Review *.

United Nations Global Compact

United Nations Global Compact

On April 19, 2010, MRI became the first Japanese think tank to become a signatory to the United Nations Global Compact. In the 2018 fiscal year, 15 employees participated in eight subcommittees of the Global Compact Network Japan and served as organizers of the Creating Shared Value (CSV) and Women's Empowerment Principles (WEPs) subcommittees.

Japan Climate Initiative

Since the 2015 signing of the Paris Agreement, non-governmental organizations around the world have played major roles in measures aimed at combatting climate change. The Japan Climate Initiative was launched in July 2018. MRI has participated in this organization since its inception.
The Consumer Goods Forum (CGF)

The Consumer Goods Forum (CGF)

In the 2018 fiscal year, MRI joined the Consumer Goods Forum (CGF). The CGF is a consumer goods distribution industry organization with roughly 400 member organizations from 70 countries. By participating in the CGF, MRI is helping to resolve the societal issues targeted by the organization, such as environmental sustainability, social sustainability, and food safety.
The TCFD Recommendations

The TCFD Recommendations

In FY9/21, MRI declared its support for the recommendations of the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD), which was established by the Financial Stability Board. We also joined the TCFD Consortium, which is made up of companies, financial institutions, and other organizations that support the recommendations. We will continue to disclose climate change-related information in accordance with the TCFD recommendations and to engage actively in dialogue with stakeholders.
