Hanoi, 20th April 2023—Mitsubishi Research Institute (MRI), in collaboration with the National Innovation Center (NIC), under the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI), held a seminar on impact investment under the banner “The catalyst leading new growth in Vietnam”. Through the seminar, organizers aim to promote development of Vietnam's economy, resolve social issues through innovation, and connect impact startups to investment funds and financial institutions. This seminar is one part of a series of activities commemorating 50 years of diplomacy between Vietnam and Japan, and it is also a hallmark event under Vietnam Innovation Initiative (InnovateVN) by MPI .
Vietnam has set a goal to become a developed country by 2045, and in order to achieve this goal alongside economic growth, addressing environmental and social issues is crucial and urgent. Among them, innovative and entrepreneurial businesses are emerging as potential factors in applying innovative business models to address the social issues. Japan is the country with a lot of relevant experience in tackling social issues which Vietnam has been facing, therefore, collaboration between Japan and Vietnam is a significant step forward in creating and developing impact startups.
Leaders from both government and private sector attended the event representing Ministry of Planning and Investment, central and local authority of Vietnam, Embassy of Japan in Vietnam, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO); Japanese businesses, investment funds, and Vietnamese startups. Dialogue at the seminar highlighted the importance of establishing a network to connect Vietnamese and Japanese impact startups. This would provide an effective means for startups to share information and experiences while receiving support, market advice, and investment from Japan.
