Kyoto (October 1, 2023)—Mitsubishi Research Institute, Inc. (MRI) and King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) signed a memorandum of understanding to promote joint research, development, and innovation between Saudi Arabia and Japan. KACST is the Saudi government scientific institution in charge of promoting science and technology, and MRI shares the same goals in Japan.

MRI and KACST signed at a ceremony held during the 20th STS Forum Annual Meeting in Kyoto. The pair aims to explore ways for KACST to collaborate with Japanese companies, universities, and research institutions.
“We are excited to help KACST consider ways to combine the strengths of both Saudi Arabia and Japan, and we will encourage Japanese startups to take part in The Garage” said MRI President Kenji Yabuta. “Also, we are able to contribute through our project management services to make sure promising joint R&D projects get up and running effectively.”
The Garage is a deep tech incubation facility run by KACST in Riyadh.
“We are looking to encourage KACST to hold the STS Forum Middle East Regional Forum in the next few years,” added Yabuta.
The STS Forum is an international platform based in Japan that combines academia, industry, and government to guide the progress of science and technology.
Through the memorandum, both parties aim to contribute to the development of science and technology in Saudi Arabia by promoting R&D collaboration between both counties.
